At approximately 4:24 AM on Saturday, December 20, 2014, a wrong-way driver died in a Plant City collision which also left one in stable/critical condition.

John J. Borota, age 52 of Brandon was driving his white 2014 Ford F250 westbound in the eastbound lanes of SR-60 near Cable Rd for an unknown period and collided head-on with a copper 2005 Ford F250.  That F250 was being driven by 28 year-old Tyler Strickland of Lithia. Strickland was traveling eastbound in the correct lanes of SR-60 when in crash occurred.

Borota suffered fatal injuries and expired at the scene of the crash.

Strickland was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital for treatment of critical injuries. Alcohol or drug involvement is currently unknown at this time with toxicology results pending according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The latest update has Strickland listed in “stable/critical” condition.

The eastbound lanes of SR-60 reopened at 10:07 AM following completion of the on-scene investigation.
