Thanksgiving Day Fatality Crash in Pinellas Park

A woman died in a vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on Belcher Road. The crash occurred at about 2:25 PM on Belcher Road at the intersection of 90th Avenue in Pinellas Park.

Crews from Pinellas Park Fire Department arriving on-scene reported that CPR was in progress.  CPR was being preformed by a bystander.  Units from Pinellas Park Police and Sunstar Paramedics arrived as well to assist.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) arrived on-scene to conduct an investigation into the crash.  According to Sgt. Steve Gaskin of FHP, 90 year-old Joyce I. Poitras of Pinellas Park, was traveling eastbound approaching the intersection of Belcher Road. She was traveling in a 2008 Nissan Altima and was wearing a seatbelt according to the report.

18 year-old Mark Trussell Maxwell of Hudson, Florida was traveling northbound on Belcher Road in a 2000 Dodge Dakota in the left lane approaching the intersection of 90th Avenue North.

Poitras entered the intersection into the path of the Dodge Dakota. The front of Dakota collided with the passenger side of the Altima.

The Altima came to final rest facing northeast on the east shoulder of Belcher Road north of 90th Avenue North. V-2 came to final rest facing south on the east shoulder of Belcher Road north of 90th Avenue North.

Poitras was transported to St. Petersburg General where she died from injuries sustained during the crash.

Both Maxwell and his 18 year-old passenger, Jarrett Weston Dudley of Dade City were seriously injured and transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

No charges are expected in the crash and alcohol did not appear to have been a factor according to the FHP report.
