A pedestrian who was walking in the roadway on Highland Avenue in Largo was struck and killed by a Ford Expedition according to the Largo Police Department. The crash occurred Friday evening, just prior to 10:12PM, near the intersection of S. Highland Avenue and Bayview Drive.

The 80 year-old pedestrian has been identified as Philip Scott. He was struck by a 33 year-old Clearwater woman who was traveling northbound on S. Highland Avenue.

Arriving crews from Clearwater Fire & Rescue arrived on-scene and immediately requested Bayflite to fly him to a local trauma center.  Due to the extent of his injuries and deteriorating condition, the decision was made to cancel Bayflite and immediately transport him to to Bayfront Health – St. Petersburg via Sunstar Paramedics where he was pronounced dead.

Both directions of travel on S. Highland Avenue were closed for a few hours around the collision site.

The investigation continues.
