Detectives from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) Crimes Against Children Unit are investigating a near-drowning of a 6 year-old at a home in Seminole.

The incident occurred at about 2:48 PM on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at a home located at 12160 92nd Avenue N in Seminole.

Crews from Seminole Fire Rescue Department and Sunstar Paramedics responded to reports of a child in distress.  While en-route to the home, it was reported that CPR was being performed on the child.  Additional medical resources and PCSO were requested to respond.

According to investigators, 6 year-old Matthew Dixon and his friends were playing with water guns and super soakers around the pool area of his home.  Matthew’s 10 year-old friend/neighber, noticed that he was not getting out of the pool after falling in.  She attempted to get him out of pool but was unable.  She sought the help of Matthew’s 14 year-old brother, Michael.  Michael was able to remove Matthew from the pool.  Kelley Woodward, his mother, along with a neighbor performed CPR until the arrival of Seminole Fire Rescue personnel.

Matthew was transported via Sunstar to Largo Medical Center Hospital.  About 5:30 PM, he was transferred to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg by helicopter.  According to PCSO, he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Detectives say there were adults nearby while the children were playing around the pool and the incident appears to be accidental in nature.

The investigation continues.
