Malfunctioning Fire Sprinkler May Impact Services At Bardmoor Outpatient Center on Wednesday

At approximately 4:45 PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, units from Seminole Fire Rescue Department were dispatched to a fire alarm. The alarm originated from the Morton Plant Mease Bardmoor Outpatient Center located at 8787 Bryan Dairy Road in Largo, Florida.
Just prior to 5 PM, additional units from Seminole and Largo Fire Rescue Departments were requested after mentions of an electrical type odor along with a sprinkler activation. Investigative crews were unable to find any smoke or other evidence of fire. Crews worked to silence the alarm once the confirmation of building evacuation was complete.
The sprinkler was located on the 3rd floor and crews worked to stop the flow of water. Fire rescue personnel described the water damage on all three floors as significant. As of 10:30 PM, a large cleanup operation was still underway with ServiceMaster Restore helping to restore the building to normal operation.
According to a statement from Beth Hardy, Communication Manager for Morton Plant Mease Hospitals, many services in the building will be closed Wed., May 20th. Patients are being asked to contact their physician if unsure about any scheduled appointment or service. Surgery center, imaging and lab patients should call those offices directly. No one was injured and all tenants have been notified, as well as surgery center, imaging and lab patients according to Hardy.
The Bardmoor ER and Bardmoor Medical Arts Building at 8834 Bryan Dairy Road have not been impacted. The Bardmoor ER is currently open and the Bardmoor Medical Arts Building will open as usual on Wednesday. The Bardmoor Outpatient Rehabilitation Center will also open as usual according to the statement.
Crews are working to restore the building to normal operations and a determination will be made Wednesday as to when the building will reopen. Hardy wrote in an statement, “We apologize for any inconvenience this unforeseen event has caused our patients.”
