Hazmat at Pinch A Penny Warehouse in Clearwater

July 22, 2014 – 1:45PM

Crews from Largo Fire Rescue were dispatched to reports of a possible hazardous material incident just prior to 10 AM on Tuesday morning.  The call for service was at 14550 62nd Street N. This address is listed as the 50,000+ square foot corporate office for Pinch A Penny.

Initial reports indicated that a toxic cloud was present due to a mixture of a least two chemical agents.  Additional resources were dispatched and the building was evacuated.

At this time, at least one airboat is being utilized to assist in ventilating the affected structure. Rehabilitation for crews have been setup due to the extended time of the operation.

62nd Street will remain closed in the immediate area due to vast number of rescue vehicles and the possibility of coming into contact with remaining fumes.

This operation will continue until the material has been neutralized, contained and completion of the decontamination process.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
