Daughter Finds Parents Deceased at Home in Largo

On Thursday, December 18th, 2014, at approximately 2:33 PM, the Largo Police received a call from a utility worker in the area of 13156 Thoroughbred Loop. The worker was flagged down by a teenager who advised she had just arrived home and upon entering her residence she found her parents deceased from what appears to be gunshot wounds.
Units quickly responded to the incident location where 46 year-old Rochelle Tatrai and 46 year-old Sean Ray were located and confirmed deceased. Pinellas Preparatory Academy delayed the dismissal of their students until clearance was given by Largo Police.
Rochelle Tatrai-Ray was appointed as the President/CEO of Gulf Coast Jewish Family Services (GCJFS) in June 2014. According to GCJFS, she had 20-years of financial and
senior management experience, had a master’s degree in Public Administration from
Duquesne University, and was a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
In 2009, the CEO of Gulf Coast Jewish Family Services, Michael Bernstein, committed suicide during an investigation of financial irregularities.
According to the Largo Police Department the investigation is ongoing. Though no conclusions have been reached, preliminary information supports the possibility of murder-suicide.
Gulf Coast Jewish Family and Community Services issued the following statement Thursday night:
“With our deepest regret and through heart wrenching pain, we acknowledge the loss of our CEO, Rochelle Tatrai-Ray, who, as has been reported, was apparently the victim of a domestic violence murder.
Rochelle had the heart of the highest calibered licensed mental health therapist which is how she began her career. She never lost touch with that spirit as she rose in leadership, serving our agency for 13 years through hard work, dedication, grit and an uncommon love for the people served by her agency and the people she worked with on her GCJFCS team.
This is an unthinkable time for our Gulf Coast family and we ask that Rochelle’s daughters and family be kept in the prayers, hearts and minds of all who are in range of this story. Her loss is unimaginable and it will be felt by our entire staff, our Board of Directors, our funders and anyone who knew her.
We know that Rochelle, through her helping nature would want us to encourage any victim who is experiencing domestic violence which begins with verbal threats, to seek help immediately.
